The latest golfing star to join Cobra Puma Golf was announced recently as leading amateur Bryson DeChambeau confirmed he would be sponsored by the company going forward.  He will be wearing the Puma golf clothing and will be using the Cobra clubs at tournament.

Rising star

Bryson is a 22 year old who has quickly made strides through the amateur leagues and became only the 5th golfer to win the NCAA Men’s Individual Championship as well as the US Amateur in the same calendar year.  He also finished tied second in the Australian Masters after a final round 67 while he made the cut in all three of the European events that he entered at the start of the year.  He also won the Silver Cup for the Low Amateur at the 2016 Masters.

Following his success, he announced in April that he was turning pro and that he had sealed the new Cobra Puma deal.

Playing at his first pro tournament in the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head Island, Bryson was wearing clothing, accessories and footwear from the Puma brand and was also using virtually a full set of Cobra clubs.

President and CEO of Cobra Puma Golf, Robert Philion, spoke of their new addition saying that he had a winning combination of ‘talent, ingenuity and personality’ that makes him both a dynamic player and an excellent ambassador for the brand.  His enjoyment of the game and desire to better his play is very much in line with the mission of the brand, Philion added.

Perfect combination

Bryson himself was enthusiastic about the new partnership, offering similar observations.  He said that the brand complements his style and attitude as well as his desire to be innovative while still being his own self.  He is already testing some of the new Cobra King Forced CB prototype irons for the company with results to follow.

He also tested the new blue Cobra King F6+ driver at the Arnold Palmer Invitational where he was entered as a sponsor’s exemption and finished in joint 27th place, following a final round 66.  Included in his bag going forward will be the 3 wood Cobra King F6 and the Cobra King V Grind wedges.

Innovative year

This year has been one of innovation and change for the brand, with new players joining the existing line-up and developments in Puma clothing continuing.  Puma are known as a brand that create young, colourful and bold looking golf clothing while still offering clothing that are suitable for the traditional style golfer.

However, it is their innovations in terms of fabrics and how they interact with the body is one of the leading reasons that professionals such as Bryson DeChambeau have signed up with the brand.  Moisture management is a huge issue for players of all levels, with clothes absorbing sweat from the body to become heavy and uncomfortable.  Yet the new developments in the Puma clothing means that their golfing wear don’t become damp, stay fresh and dry and don’t pick up any unwanted odours during a round.

True to size fit

For the amateur player, one of the toughest areas with golf clothing can be finding the right fit.  Puma are known to have one of the best ‘true to size’ fits in their clothing of any golfing brand as they offer two different fits – tailored and performance.  While the difference between the two isn’t significant, it is enough to ensure the wearer can get the right fit with the tailored fit having a slightly more tapered shape and sleeves that are a little shorter.

Often with golf trousers, an increase in waist size doesn’t lead to corresponding more room in other areas but the Puma trousers ranges ensure that as you go up in waist size, you also have a little more room for thighs and glutes that may be required.

Winter breakthroughs

Puma Golf have also introduced a revolutionary new dimension to their winter golfing wear that will make the PWRWARM range a huge favourite with golfers of all levels.  The range uses a clever ceramic filament in the fabric that has the effect of retaining body heat.  It can increase the body temperature by as much as four degrees and stops the body becoming cold and stiff during those winter rounds.

The range follows the PWR Cool range, released earlier in the year that offers a new level of moisture wicking due to the inclusion of something called Xylitol.  Used in chewing gum, this substance draws in moisture and stops the sweat hanging on the skin, making the skin cold and uncomfortable.

Complete the look

Completing the look are the Puma golf shoe ranges including the Ignite Spikeless and the Ignite Drive, both made for the golfer.  Available in a wide range of colours, they offer practicality and style in the manner that Puma is renowned for.
